Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
