The Lowest-Rated Titles of the Year 2025, Based on Metacritic

At every turn, enthusiasts are quick to share their lists of the greatest titles of 2025. But what about the stinkers, the low achievers? We'll take a momentary detour to examine the most panned games of the year, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Is every one of these games truly as terrible as the reviews suggest? Here is the list.

10. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Aggregate Score: 54/100, User Score: 3.4/10

The early response to this showcase title were colored by its $9.99 price tag, with many feeling cheesed off it wasn't a free pack-in like similar console launches. Professional assessment spanned a wide spectrum, from "crushing disappointment" to somewhat forgiving reviews that noted the delightful software itself. Despite the controversy, the title proved to be a notable commercial performer during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Aggregate Score: 53/100, Audience Score: 3.2/10

Presented as "not just a racing game," this vroom-vroom title from European developers received pretty unanimous reviews. Reviews pointed out that the game felt unfinished in nearly every way, especially in a year filled with high-quality racing titles. Ultimately, this sputtering stinker was advised to be left on the shelf.

8. Bubsy's Purrfect Collection

Aggregate Score: 53/100, Audience Score: 8.6/10

To begin with: the irritating title grammar is a minor strike against it. This anthology of 1990s-era mascot platformers features a sarcastic feline known for non-stop hacky one-liners. Reviewers noted that these games haven't aged well originally and have not improved with age. The improbably high user score is a peculiar oddity to the Metascore.

7. Nen x Impact

Metascore: 53, Audience Score: 3.5

This manga-based fighting game encountered widespread disappointment from both critics and fans. Issues included a limited roster of characters and a severe lack of features. User reviews was particularly harsh, with some stating a desire that the title's poor performance would have consequences for the developers.

6. Neptunia Motorcycle Game

Aggregate Score: 51, Audience Score: 5.3

A part of the quirky Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this bike-riding title tasks players with gathering slime-like creatures. Reviewers felt that its attempt to recreate a *Katamari Damacy*-like experience ultimately fell flat, coming across as more of a quick spin-off than a meaningful addition to the franchise. Its brief runtime combined with a full retail cost seemed like a bold choice.

5. Captain Blood

Aggregate Score: 50, Audience Score: 5.3

This title is a piece of lost media from the past, finally released after years and years in legal limbo. The team behind it opted to release the game as an authentic artifact of its time, fully aware that today's audiences might not appreciate its retro feel. As such, many reviews remarked that the interesting history of its journey was more interesting than the game itself.

4. Scar-Lead

Aggregate Score: 44, User Score: 2.4

This anime-styled roguelike shooter modeled after games like *Returnal* fell flat with critics. The main issues centered on repetitive adversaries, samey environments, and a unengaging plot. A much-criticized system involving the protagonist's clothing was universally disliked and undermined the game's enjoyment.

3. Ambulance Life

Metascore: 44, Audience Score: 4.9

Think of the tense medical sims of the past, then remove the compelling story. That, according to reviews, is roughly *Ambulance Life*. Players found the ambulance-driving sequences to be monotonous, and the narrative's handling of its subject matter was criticized as being poorly executed. The overall experience was deemed largely unsatisfying.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Metascore: 43, Audience Score: 5.8

This new direction for the classic digital companion formula transforms the franchise into a minigame collection title. The result, per critics, was a unsatisfying assortment of basic activities that very soon overstayed its welcome. Some reviews went so far as to label it one of the most disappointing titles available on its platform, citing a complete absence of satisfying gameplay.

1. MindsEye

Aggregate Score: 37, User Score: 2.5

Positioned as a high-profile GTA-style title from a ex-Rockstar veteran's industry veterans, *MindsEye* was a notable commercial failure. Reviews savaged its lousy combat, dull missions, and a plethora of technical problems. Many found it to be a significant step back compared to much older games in the similar style. Among the sea of negativity, a few of positive user reviews found fun in the experience, providing a rare vote of confidence.
